Enbar on the Issues
Education
All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.
Arthur Schopenhauer
I know there has been much discussion about over capacity at our zoned high school, Dr.Michael Krop Senior High. The issue that has been brought to my attention is that MKHS is at 121% capacity, and comparing data from the 2000 and 2010 Census, we see a percentage change of 115.37% in population under the age of 18, from 2564 to 5522 in our city. As the demographics continue to change in Aventura, there will a greater demand for an additional high school or option to serve our community.
Infrastructure and Project Development
I have lived in Aventura for nearly 12 years and it comes without hesitation for me to say that I have seen much development since then. We are welcoming our first-ever Class A LEED Gold certified building, located at 21500 Biscayne Blvd and this will be the first of its kind in South Florida. We need to continue being at the forefront of project development and continue to blend with the current topography while taking into account our traffic conditions both during the building process and after completion.
Economic and Small Business Development
The Aventura Mall is indeed one of our most attractive destinations for both residents and visitors of Aventura. We must not forget our other business partners who, too, strive to provide top-notch products and services.
Increasing Green Initiatives
It is my joy to share that the City of Aventura is currently a Green Local Government, as certified by the Florida Green Builders Coalition (FGBC). Our City government has done an outstanding job with helping reduce our carbon footprint. The program that is currently in place focuses on improving environmental performance through waste reduction, water conservation, air quality improvements and many other conditions. I plan on continuing to work and expand the current practices
Working in collaboration with State and County Governments
Working on both the national and local level of the political sphere, I have earned the respect of elected officials in state and county government for my role in the LGBT community as well as in creating a mock media strategy plan for the passing of a resolution in the Washington D.C./Tri-State area. As an Aventura Commissioner, I will use my understanding of political advocacy and personal access to other levels of government for the benefit of creating stronger, more sustainable partnerships.
Quality of Life and Keeping Aventura Beautiful
The quality of life that Aventura serves for our residents is incalculable. Some of the Parks and Facilities are listed below. I plan on working to ensure that these facilities continue to work efficiently and address the needs of those you use them. As someone who runs the Don Soffer Exercise Trail often, I know and understand the need of ensuring the pavement is free and clear of all debris and is suitable for all exercise activities.
